and the law of comprehension (理解) is the Way.
以觉法为道
Open your mind, you'll be wise;
开而当名
close your mind, you'll be confused.
变而弥广
The three laws are boundless (无限的),
法虽三焉而类无不尽
but once you master them, you'll attain your aspirations (抱负),
觉虽一爲
and your mind be enlightened (开悟的).
而智无不周
Begin your study from the surface (表面),
观诸法而会其要
you will reach the essence (本质).
辩众流而同其原
Lust (欲望) destroys (毁灭) life,**
悟惑色之悖德
as does worldly (世俗的) pleasure (快乐).
杜六门以寝患
Know your destiny (命运),
入深缘起
never fear death.
见生死际
Once you pass the nine tests (考验),
尔乃辟九关于龙津
you'll be rewarded (得到回报).
超三忍以登位
Cast away your worries (忧虑),
垢习凝于无生

形累毕于神化
With no attachments (执着), you will know peace.

A gift (礼物) for he who knows their value.
能识此宝者分文不取
If you don't, no gold is enough!
不识此宝者重金不卖
Take them to the palace.

Monk, how much is your cassock?
和尚你这裂装要价几何
For the cassock, five thousand taels.
架裟五千两
For this staff (手杖), two thousand.
锡杖二干两
It's too expensive!
要价着实贵
Not a small sum (金额) of silver (银子).
值这么多银两
And what makes them worth it?
你这袭装有何好处
This cassock is made of ice worm silk (丝绸),
这裂裂是冰蚕抽丝
was woven by fairies (仙女),
仙娥织就
and is covered in treasures (珍宝).
上有各种宝物
The wearer (穿戴者) will not suffer (遭受) worldly pain or fall into Hell (地狱),
穿我裂裟不入沉沦不堕地狱
and will be under heaven's protection (保护).
坐有万乘朝礼动有七佛随身

We monks in the east preach only the Little Vehicle.
如今东土僧众讲的都是小乘教法
We know nothing of the Great Vehicle.
却不知大乘教法如何
Your preachings only achieve a vulgar (世俗的) enlightenment.
你那小乘教法只可浑俗和光
I have three stores (部) of Great Vehicle scriptures (经文)
我有大乘佛法三藏
that will raise the dead to heaven
能超亡者升天
and deliver (解救) souls from the wheel (轮回) of suffering (苦难).
能度难人脱苦

In Thunder Monastery, where our Buddha lives.
在西天灵山大雷英寺我佛如来之处
Fifty four thousand kilometers to the west.
离此十万八千里

Since this is so, I offered to you my efforts
既然如此弟子愿效犬马之劳
to obtain the true scriptures,
去往西天求取真经
and thus ensure your empire's eternal well-being.

But the west is so far.
只是那西天路途遥远
Countless beasts and demons are waiting for you.
多有虎豹妖魔
You might not survive (生存) from the journey.
只怕有去无回难保生命

我已发了弘誓大愿此去定要直至西天
If I fail in obtaining the scriptures,
不得真经
I shall never return.
